2026 Nascar Start 'Em Once League - Rules
LEAGUE SETUP:
The Nascar Cup Series 36 points races make up the whole season. The season is divided into 3 Segments using the following format.
Regular Season: (Races 1-26) 26 races
Fantasy Chase and Redemption Races: (Races 27-36) 10 races
The Clash in February and All Star Race in May are not part of this league.
Drivers: Each fantasy team will choose one driver each race on the 36 race Nascar Cup Series schedule.
Each driver may only be used once throughout the season and only the 36 chartered Nascar teams (the teams that are guaranteed to make the race each week) will be used. That means each of the 36 chartered drivers will need to be picked once during the season. No road course ringers or superspeedway specialists can be picked, so you will need to strategize which driver to use each week.
Points: Each fantasy team receives stage points based on where your chosen driver finishes each stage.
Each fantasy team receives finishing points based on where your chosen driver finishes each race. We will use the Nascar points system to award driver points.
See a more detailed points breakdown at the bottom of this rules page.
Fantasy Chase: This league will mimic Nascar's newly created Chase format. The top 16 teams after Race #26 (also known as the regular season) will make up the Fantasy Chase field. Points to begin the Fantasy Chase will be reset based on where each Chase eligible team finished in the regular season. The higher your team finishes in the points, the more of an advantage it will have to start the Chase. Please read further for more info on the points reset.
Redemption Races: Teams that don't make the Fantasy Chase still have something to play for. They will be placed in their own group (separate from the Chase teams) and will compete in the Redemption Races over the final 10 races of the season.
Champion: The fantasy team that qualifies for and scores the most points during the Fantasy Nascar Chase will be the Nascar Start Em' Once League Champion.
Redemption Races (Winners): The fantasy teams that scores the most points from this group during the last 10 races of the season will be the Redemptions Races winners. There could be additional winners throughout the season depending on the number of teams in the league.
We use Fantrax to run the league. While typically their software is set up to run fantasy leagues with a draft, etc., this league will still be using the same "pick from a group" format that has been used successful in our other Nascar League since day 1.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The items listed above are just an overview of the league. For further explanation on the rules, please read further as they are broken down further in each section.
SCORING:
The Nascar points system will be used to award points after each race based on the following:
1.) Drivers that finish in the Top 10 after Stage 1 of each race
2.) Drivers that finish in the Top 10 after Stage 2 of each race
3.) Drivers based on their Stage 3 finishing position (final results)
NOTE: The Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte on Memorial Day weekend will have 3 stages instead of the normal 2. Stage 4 will be the finishing results for that race.
No bonus points are awarded for:
-Qualifying
-Laps Led
-Most Laps Led
-Stage Wins
-Race Wins

REDEMPTION RACES:
Fantasy teams that do not make the Fantasy Chase will be placed in their own group during the final 10 races of the season. Everyone in this group starts at zero and accumulate stage and race points. Teams must use the remaining 10 drivers that they have not yet used to make their selections for those final 10 races. Driver groups DO NOT reset after the regular season.
The team to accumulate the most points in the final 10 races will be the winner of the Redemption Races. NOTE: Since these teams are not eligible for the Fantasy Chase, they will be scored in their own separate group. The 16 Chase teams will not be eligible for the Redemption Races or their winnings.
END OF SEASON WINNERS/TIEBREAKERS:
1st Tiebreaker: The entry with the most race winners chosen throughout the 36 race Nascar Cup Series season.
2nd Tiebreaker: The entry with the most 2nd place drivers chosen throughout the 36 race Nascar Cup Series season.
Tiebreakers Thereafter: The most 3rd place drivers chosen, then 4th Place drivers chosen and each place thereafter until the tie has been broken.
MAKING SELECTIONS:
Selections can be any time before each race deadline and can be made more than one race ahead.
SUBMISSION DEADLINES:
Changes are due each week prior to the posted start time (regularly scheduled race time) of each race and can be made anytime right up until the deadline. You can also make selections weeks ahead.
The posted will be listed in the "Commish Messages" section of the league homepage every week. It is recommended that you make selections well before this, since start times can vary from week to week. While every effort will be made to keep you posted on this, it is ultimately the team owner's responsibility to make sure picks are locked in on time each week.
DELAYS: If there is a rain/snow/lightning delay etc prior to the start of the race or the race is postponed, you are still responsible to submit your selection before the original scheduled picks deadline. Another words, the deadline will not change because of a rain delay or postponement.
Note: In situations of postponements, the commish reserves the right to extend the picks deadline if circumstances allow. This is in rare situations though and not the norm.
PICKS POSTED BY COMMISH: If you need help making your selections or are having computer problems, please email your pick to the commish before the deadline and he will enter it for you. If you are stil having trouble and it is approaching the deadline, email your pick to the commish immediately. That way your pick is at least submitted on time for the week. Afterwards, you and the commish can work out the issues you are having.
LATE SELECTIONS/NO SELECTIONS/DUPLICATE SELECTION:
If you should fail to make a selection for a particular week, your team will score zero points for that weeks race.
If you pick a duplicate selection, the software should give a warning at the top of your roster page. IMPORTANT: It will still allow you to make the pick, so after you make your selection, please check your roster page to ensure there are no duplicate pick warnings are posted at the top of the page.
The league commissioner will not be held responsible for any changes being late, lost, or misdirected as a result of any computer malfunction, delay, etc. If you are having computer problems, contact the commissioner with your picks before the deadline and he will enter your desired picks for you.
POSTING SELECTIONS/RESULTS:
WHEN ARE SELECTIONS POSTED: Selections are posted immediately after the picks deadline has passed.
LIVE SCORING: The "Live Scoring" page will be used so you can follow along in semi real time how your team is doing. Stage results and final race results should be posted shortly after completion of each.
Please note that while live scoring is timely and pretty accurate, it is NOT the official scoring. Final results do not become official until Nascar makes the race official the day after each race, so changes could be made up to 48 hours after the race has completed.
DRIVERS USED TO DETERMINE POINTS:
Drivers will be used to determine points for your team in this league. Typically, drivers race in the same car throughout the season. However, there are times when driver swaps happen after qualifying but before the race or even during the race. Please read the next section for rare instances of driver changes and how they are handled.
DRIVER REPLACEMENTS:
Replacement Driver Announced on Race Day: This will be considered an emergency situation. If a driver is replaced in this situation, you will receive points for the replacement driver for this particular race even if you don't make a change to your lineup.
Replacement Driver Announced Prior To Race Day: Team owners will be responsible for making the change to their lineup like normal. If you do not make a change prior to the race and the replaced driver is still in their lineup, you will receive zero points for that driver.
NOTE: If a driver simply switches cars (or car numbers), but is still participating in the race, then the criteria above does not apply.
The league commissioner will do everything he can to keep teams updated on any changes to the driver lineup each race, however it is ultimately the team owner's responsibility to be sure you are submitting a proper lineup each week.
NASCAR PENALTIES:
If a driver is disqualified by Nascar after the race has been completed, that driver will be disqualified in this league as well.
If a driver is docked points by NASCAR for anything illegal, such as driver/crew conduct, etc., there will be no points deductions in this pool. In this instance, where the driver finished will be his points for that race.
